Flow by Using a Scoreboard

Every Tuesday Morning myself and our team look at the scoreboard.  Most pastors look solely at the attendance and senior pastors tend to look at the offering.  They are seeing their ministry from a limited perspective.

Our team measures each week - attendance, 1st time guests, 2nd time guests, membership prospects, small group sign-ups and participation, offering, new givers, baptism prospects, baptisms, new members, and people involved in ministry.

One of the great leadership books, Flow reads, "Flow is “the state in which people are so involved in an activity that nothing else seems to matter; the experience itself is so enjoyable that people will do it even at great cost, for the sheer sake of doing it.”

Rules provide boundaries. Practice builds skills. And scoring systems offer immediate feedback on your performance. If jobs were constructed like games, flow would be reached more often at work.

What do you measure in your ministry?

How to Be Productive

Productivity comes from a quiet state of mental being. Distractions easily disrupt conscious thought.

“The big problem is that your mind keeps reminding you of things when you can’t do anything about them.”

David Allen says, "despite most people’s declaration that there is just not enough time in the day, time is not the issue; clarifying the actions needed is where people fall down."

Welcome to the Church Leadership Blog

One of my joys in life is to add value to those in church leadership.  This blog will be used for leadership, strategy, tips and training.

One of my favorite verses is found in Psalm 78:72, "And David shepherded them with integrity of heart; with skillful hands he led them."

I believe scripture speaks to 2 foundational principles of church leadership.
1.  Character - "integrity of heart"
2.  Competency - "skillful hands"

What does character mean to you?  Why is it so important?
Why is competency valued so highly?

Would love to hear your thoughts.
